Antique shops in the Non-Contiguous region

One cannot easily "motor" through either of the two states that make up the Non-Contiguous region of Antique Travel Guide USA. Alaska is far too large and sparsely inhabited, and Hawaii consists of 132 islands--only 8 of which are the "main," inhabited islands. Other modes of travel which are most often used include boats, helicopters and airplanes. Many of the Alaskan native groups--the Aleut, Eskimo, and Indians--survive today, forming about 16% of Alaska's population and contributing to the State's ongoing cultural heritage. Europeans, including the British, Spanish and French, began exploring Alaska in the early 1700s, and much of their influence remains part of the way of life in Alaska today as well. The State's vast wealth of natural resources has contributed billions of dollars' worth of products to the US economy, proving that "Seward's Folly" and the 2 cents per acre that we paid to Russia for the territory, was indeed a real bargain! Hawaii's Polynesian heritage continues to play a very important role in the everyday lives of the people that live on the State's eight main islands. The fact that there are no ethnic majorities in Hawaii adds great "richness" to the "flavor" of this State as well. Comparing these two States is like comparing apples to oranges. Yet in both States their ethnic minorities--which can trace their roots back hundreds and hundreds of years--certainly play a huge role in the antiques you will find in both States! Antique shops in Alaska and Hawaii are filled with cultural items that are not available in shops on the Mainland. Though difficult and often very expensive to get to, antiquing in this region's shops can certainly be very rewarding!

The following states are in this region:
