The name Wyoming comes from "mscheweamiing" a word in the Dakota language that means "at the big flats" or "large plains."
Wyoming became a state on July 10, 1890. It was the 44th state to be admitted to the Union.
People who live in or come from Wyoming are called "Wyomingites."
